Description of Knowledge Of Postpartum Mothers About Giving Colostrum To New Born Babyes At TPMB Mutiara Kasih

Abstract

Background: The health of the child must be prepared from the womb to grow and develop. Every parent wants a healthy baby and a good physique, so after the baby is born the baby must immediately be given breast milk to meet the nutritional needs of the baby. Breastfeeding the baby will reduce the mortality and morbidity of the baby. Data from the World Health Organization (2020) states that one in ten children are malnourished, 45% of deaths of which children under five are malnourished. The high mortality rate in the world can actually be avoided by giving breast milk, especially colostrum. Objective: Describe the mother’s knowledge about giving colostrum to newborns in TPMB Mutiara Kasih. Method: Case studies included in this study are descriptive analysis, which is research conducted focusing on a particular case to be observed and analyzed carefully to completion. Results: Based on the research conducted, it was found that Mrs. F gave colostrum to her baby. Where Mrs. F has done IMD on her baby which means Mrs. F’s baby has received the first milk (Colostrum). Conclusion: Mother’s knowledge about colostrum shows that the
mother already knows about information about what colostrum is and the benefits of colostrum. Based on
knowledge, it shows that mothers have knowledge about colostrum in the know category where mothers have given colostrum to their babies during Early Breastfeeding Initiation until the third day.
