Abstract

Background: Stress causes the release of the hormone cortisol where the hormone cortisol serves as a reference point to assess a person's stress level. Stress stimulates the HPS axis which produces the hormone cortisol which can result in an imbalance of reproductive hormones and disruption of menstrual patterns. Normal menstrual patterns, namely menstrual length: 2-3 days, menstrual volume: 35-80cc/day, menstrual cycles 25-35 times/day and changing pads: 2-3 times/day. Objective: To find out the relationship between stress levels and changes in menstrual patterns for female students at the final level of STIKES Panrita Husada Bulukumba and Muhammadiyah University of Bulukumba. Methods: This research is a quantitative study with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were 75 people with a sample size of 52 people. Results: The results of the study were that after statistical tests were carried out with the Fisher's test, the results obtained were p = 0.000. It was concluded that there was a significant relationship between stress levels and changes in menstrual patterns for final year female students at Stikes Panrita Husada Bulukumba. And obtained p = 0.001 with the Fisher's test, it was concluded that there was a relationship between stress levels and changes in menstrual patterns of final year female students at the Muhammadiyah University of Bulukumba. Conclusions and suggestions: There is a relationship between stress levels and changes in menstrual patterns of female final year Stikes Panrita Husada Bulukumba and Muhammadiyah University of Bulukumba. Final year female students are able to control and overcome the stress they experience during the preparation of their final assignment so that their menstrual patterns remain regular.
